Due to the ongoing situation with  COVID-19, this event has been cancelled.  Words Weekend Artistic Director Beth Gallimore’s statement reads:

It is with huge sadness that we have taken the decision to cancel Words Weekend at The Lowry following the escalation of COVID-19 in Europe. Although this is an incredibly difficult decision, the health of authors and audiences must be the priority.

The cancellation of London Book Fair was an early indicator of the impact COVID-19 would have on our industry, and given the fast-changing nature of the situation, we feel we must act quickly and decisively.

All ticket holders will be contacted directly by the venue.

We will be pressing ahead with our plans for Bury St Edmunds in May, our spring 2021 festival at Sage Gateshead, and hope to plan another festival at The Lowry in the future.

“Kate is a middle-aged woman trying to bring some order in her messy life. When she adopts a lurcher called Wolfy, the shabby rescue dog saves her from herself and restores peace and love to her human relationships. Redeemed, life is looking up. But then the dog disappears. Will she save him – and can she save herself from slipping back into her worst habits?”

Join writer Kate Spicer as she discusses all that it took to write her life-affirming memoir, Lost Dog: A Love Story, and recounts a journey that questioned her mental health, her sense of self, and what the relationship between human and canine can truly mean.

Kate Spicer is a lifestyle journalist who has written for the Sunday Times, The Times, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, Evening Standard, Vogue, Elle, Red and Noble Rot magazines. She has appeared on television in everything from MasterChef to Newsnight. Wolfy Spicer was probably born around 2012 and probably has 30 brothers and sisters. His early life is a mystery as he lived outside the law in his youth. Authorities finally caught up with him living rough on the streets of Manchester in 2014.

As a daughter of Salford, Kate can’t wait for a homecoming event at Words Weekend – and we’re sure Wolfy is excited too!
