Of all the combinations in the world, belly dancing and rock music might not be the first thing that comes into your mind however, professional belly dancer Jeka is here to prove why this combo is powerfully brilliant! After a small dive into youtube and witnessing the sheer number of awesome dancing happening in sync with the best of the rock and metal cannon, we can confirm it looks incredibly fun. Join Jeka for Bellyrock at Band on the Wall where you’ll learn first hand why this unlikely pairing has really kicked off.

Belly dancing empowers people of all genders to embrace their femininity whilst learning to move your body like free flowing water as well as landing impactful hits. You’ll be walked through the basics of body isolations, where you move single parts of your body with beautifully precise dexterity. You’ll also be encouraged to explore how your body moves until you’re there waving your torso like a cobra snake to the hits of Metallica. Some of the artists you can expect to dance to include Deftones, Crosses, Black Sabbath, Witch Fever, Sleep, Tool, Sepultura and John Frusciante among many others.

Sessions happen on a weekly basis on Thursday evenings, working towards a performance on the 13th June. For those who have the curiosity but not yet the bravery to give it a go, going to see a performance is the best way to understand how fun and energising this cultural collision can be.

Jeka has performed multiple times as a touring member of Bellydance Evolution by Jillina Carlano. She has also trained and become certified in many styles of belly dance including Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour formats. So you can be sure you’re in safe hands when attending a session.

For more music making, sharing, learning and sharing in communal joy, visit the Band on the Wall website and check out their learning section.
