Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel are the Olivier-nominated duo behind the hugely celebrated, and critically acclaimed West End hit, Eric & Little Ern. Now the supremely talented duo bring An Evening of Eric & Ern at Christmas, a festive family show to The Lowry in Salford.

Incorporating Morecambe and Wise’s most renowned sketches, routines and ditties, An Evening of Eric & Ern at Christmas is a brilliant celebration of the much-loved British double-act. This lively and nostalgic show conjures up memories of a time when whole families would huddle around the telly to watch a Christmas special together.

Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel have been entertaining and writing as Eric and Ern for almost five years. The research into Morecambe and Wise is there for all to see in their startlingly accurate presentation of the most successful and much-loved British comedy duo of all time. Both performers also have a wonderful relationship with the families and estates of Morecambe & Wise – all of their performance scripts are vetted and given the seal of approval before being performed.

Both performers met at drama school over thirty years ago – comic chemistry took over – and their double act was born. When Stephens was asked to play Eric Morecambe at a charity show he knew that Ashpitel would be the Ernie Wise. Having brought the house down, the two decided to write some bespoke material. And they haven’t looked back since.

Jonty explains, “It’s more than just watching a comedy show – there’s a real emotional connection – because we all remember watching it together. The audience reaction has been amazing.”

Ian adds, “We do treasure the relationship we have with each other – as did Eric and Ernie and I think it’s obvious that we love performing the comedy of Morecambe and Wise.”

Suitable for all of the family and hitting all of the right notes, An Evening of Eric & Ern at Christmas is a sparklingly sharp homage to one of Britain’s most illustrious and treasured comic partnerships.
