Instituto Cervantes is an international collection of Spanish language cultural institutions that promote Spanish language arts and cultural sharings. This October, Instituto Cervantes Manchester is participating in a project which aims to bring Spanish-speaking artists closer to the communities surrounding the centre. Acción xm2 is a two hour performance where you are given an insight into the inner workings of multiple artistic performance practices.

Later this month, 15 artists will simultaneously perform their creative actions, each in a square metre area of space inside Instituto Cervantes Manchester. Exactly what these actions are can vary wildly. Some may be participatory, some may relate to the mundane nature of everyday tasks, some may be a call to action, some a denunciation. They will be presented as one, to be experienced as a total collection of happenings.

an underlying invitation to connect with each artist’s offering

Acción xm2 shows the breadth of artistic practices among a community of Spanish-speaking makers and artists. It helps relate these habits, actions and performances to citizens close to Instituto Cervantes centres all over the world. You can expect to see multiple themes being addressed at the same time with an underlying invitation to connect with each artist’s offering.

an opportunity to see the piece in a more intimate setting

Audience numbers are limited to 100 at any one time so as to allow for safe social distancing. You can book a half hour slot to see the performance over the 2 hour duration of the actions taking place. This will give you an opportunity to see the piece in a more intimate setting.

Check out the Instituto Cervantes Manchester website for full details of their other upcoming cultural events and activities including film screenings, writing competitions and flamenco. They also have a full timetable of Spanish language classes and socials for all levels of learners.
