Exhibitions
Creative TouristIt’s a good season for contemporary art fans in Manchester, with many of our favourite small galleries launching something big. Dance crops up in a number of them, and – maybe it’s the change in seasons – the theme of time keeps coming up, too.
The biggest launch is at HOME, where internationally acclaimed artist Florence Peake arrives with her first solo show in the North West. Though sculpture, painting and live dance, Vitalities explores grief as a source of creativity and life.
Another multidisciplinary show comes from British Chinese artist Donald Shek, whose tech-infused Dance With Me explores the power of dance to speak across cultures and generations in a way that is beyond words. It’s a theme that’s picked up more physically at PINK, with Forlengelser splitting the difference between dance piece and exhibition.
Then it’s two shows concerned with time: South Yorkshire Space Station at SEESAW, which gathers more than 30 audiovisual works that were each made inside 24 hours, and The View From a Hundred Years Away at texture, which asks its viewer to adopt the gaze of someone living a hundred years from now.
