Everything’s coming up Medlock. Seriously. It seems like every new opening lately has the word Medlock attached. Is Mr Medlock on some brand awareness exercise? Enquiring minds need to know.
Anyways, this Medlock is Medlock Square, brought to you by the good people behind Manchester City FC. A moment’s silence, please, for plucky old City, who are all set to recreate their legendary run from 25 years or so ago, when they dominated the division they were in, year after year. Go City, everyone’s rooting for you.
Global tensions aside, Medlock Square is essentially a brand-new custom-built outpost of Manchester, that will, in time, connect with main Manchester, as will Mediacity, and we’ll end up with London-style enormo-regions of Manchester. Best crack on with that tube, eh, Andy?

There’s a lot happening in this square, and it all feels a lot more spacious and global than old Manchester with its murder pubs and winding alleys. It cost £300m to build, so we’re told, and it lies between the City stadium and Co-op Live in East Manchester.
As well as that, you’ve got the 401-room Radisson Blu, Little Beast, Blend and flagship restaurant Zadie’s followed, with 250-cover food hall Brickworks Market Hall on the way.
Wait, there’s more. Plans promise a 3,000-capacity covered events space and a three-storey office block, with a North Stand expansion adding around 7,000 seats. Oh, and the Manchester City Museum Experience, opens on 14 December.
Also promised are a roof walk over the stadium, abseiling and a zip-wire ride. Why? It’s Medlock-town.
