Food and Drink in the North

Ian Jones, Food and Drink Editor

It’s spring again, as Biz Markie bellowed in his little-known follow-up to the smash hit Just A Friend. Why not stick it on your jukebox, record player or Youtube app while perusing the springtime edition of our monthly food and drink deep dive? If it’s in Manchester and the North and it’s worth putting in your mouth and masticating, you’ll find it here.

We’re even getting some sun at the moment, which is a treat. Make the most of it, get out there and eat and drink under those rays, or at least at a table by the window.

Oh, and don’t forget it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 15th. We have a wealth of day or evening-out ideas below, all suitable for mater, except maybe that one pub named after vermin.

Grab a pen and take notes, here’s this month’s food and drink guide to Manchester and the North.

Our top picks

The Beeswing Wine Bar and Kitchen

The Beeswing Wine Bar and Kitchen, 24a Minshull St, Kampus, Manchester , M1 3EF - Visit now

The Beeswing is special. It taps into the refined atmosphere that you’ll find at places like Erst and Stow, but a touch less pomp, and a dash more chill. To misquote Leary, it’s a great place to drop-in, kick-back and dine-out.

Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel

Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel, Water St Manchester Enterprise City Water Street, Manchester, M3 4JQ - Visit now

The Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel showcases a side of Manchester that often gets lost among the current wave of gimmick-led tosh. This is the smart, graceful-but-friendly wing, offering up cocky ideas executed with skill. As brunches go, it’s a cut above.

The Rat & Pigeon
