The Portland Barbers is a smart, modern barbershop based in the ever-expanding Hatch complex on Manchester’s Oxford Road. Ran by experienced hair stylist Mario, this is where you can bag a cutting-edge new style without breaking the bank.

A modern barbershop catering to the modern man

The Portland Barbers have had a meteoric rise over the past few years, moving from their original location on Portland Street under a year ago, and very recently shifting to even bigger premises in Hatch. As word spreads, demand grows. Alongside Mario, you’ll find three other talented stylists who work here: Adam, Loll and Stanley.

All kinds of styles are possible, from modern cuts to classic chops, but if you want our advice, let them take the reigns. Like Arnie in Terminator 2, they’ll scan your head and immediately determine the best cut for your skull-shape, while explaining the reasoning for it. A good haircut is key when it comes to style – let the professionals take charge.

Ronaldo, aka the most famous footballer in the world, has had his cut by Stanley

Need convincing? Ronaldo, aka the most famous footballer in the world, has had his cut by Stanley, during his days at Manchester United. It’s a far cry from letting your mum run a blunt Bic razor over your bonce.

The atmosphere at The Portland Barbers is both friendly and professional – it’s more like popping round a mates house than attending a stuffy appointment, but a mate who can magically make you look better than you have in years. There’s none of the blokey, beer-drinking vibe you’ll find at some of the more wearyingly macho barbers across town, this is a modern barbershop catering to the modern man.

Hatch is one of the most vibrant and vital districts of the city and it has a barbershop to match

The soundtrack is great, as you’d expect from Mario, an ex-DJ – who can recommend some of the finest classic house tracks you’ve never heard before, all while producing a haircut that makes you feel great.

In a short time, Hatch has become one of the most vibrant and vital districts of the city, with everything from smart gift shops to top-class street food. It needs a barbershop to match, and with The Portland Barbers it has the perfect fit.
