The Beck and Call

Boasting quality grub, good ales on tap, and plenty of outdoor space, this family friendly pub in Meanwood is a local favourite not just for everyday catch ups, but for big life moment celebrations like christenings and 70th birthdays too. Serving up a large menu of quality, home-cooked gastro pub food throughout the week and some cracking roast dinners on Sundays, there’s plenty of choice for everyone at The Beck and Call whether you’re just popping in for a drink and a snack, or looking to enjoy an evening out on the town.

The cosy pub has a dedicated sports room, The Tap Room, which features a massive screen showing live football, cricket, rugby, golf, and snooker, and is kitted out with a darts board and pool table. It screens all the UEFA Champions, Europa, and Premier league matches, as well as the Six Nations rugby. A popular choice for watching Leeds United fixtures, advance booking is recommended for these games as it gets very busy on match days.

A favourite for families and large groups looking for a place to kick back and catch up with loved ones.

A large, crowd-pleasing menu here spans all the British gastro pub classics – fish and chips, sausage and mash, pie and mash with gravy – and there are good vegan and vegetarian alternatives too. Burgers and salads also feature, alongside an on the grill section featuring onglet steak, rump, slow-roasted ham hock, and gammon. Kids are well catered for, with a two course special menu for £7 that includes choices like breaded chicken strips, a cheeseburger, falafel burger, and fish fingers, followed by a scoop of ice cream to finish.

The kitchen here is especially popular on Sundays, when the team serves up their traditional roast dinners with all the trimmings alongside an ‘alternative Sunday menu’ that includes a Yorkshire pudding roast beef sandwiches served with gravy and roast potatoes. As for the classic roasts, think beef topside with creamed horseradish, roast pork belly with apple chutney, or slow roasted lamb shoulder with mint sauce. For non meat eaters, there’s a vegan haggis with pearl barley, oats and mushrooms, and of course a mini roast for kids, as well as a short list of gastropub staples.

Add to all that a lively calendar of events, ranging from a weekly pub quiz and bingo night to kids crafting workshops, kids discos, and even a dog life drawing class, and it’s easy to see why The Beck and Call is a favourite for families and large groups looking for a place to kick back and catch up with loved ones.
