Terrace NQ
Demi Sheridan, Editorial Assistant
Northern Quarter, the indie style, red brick, New York City-esque district that it is, has now become the place for vintage clothes shopping, international cuisine dining, and of course, drinking.
One of my favourite places to visit, despite the weather, is Terrace NQ. Situated in the middle of Thomas Street, its understated exterior lends itself to the subtle but undeniable ambience inside.
There is no neon sign on the door, no painted letters on the wall, nothing. Upon first entering, you might be mistaken to think this is a small venue, with a few stools propped around the wood panelled bar and in front of the window. However, past the intimate tables and down the exposed bricked corridor, the space opens. With booths, long benches and more wooden tables with British school-like chairs.
Being able to flow seamlessly from day to night, makes it one of the top bars for any occasion. Catching up with an old friend? Celebrating a birthday? Or, our favourite, after-work drinks.
And that’s not all, there is more. Head to the back of the venue, or the front depending on which entrance you used, and head up the stairs. Up here you will be pleasantly surprised to find another sitting area and the outdoor terrace.
Minimalist on another level, Terrace NQ have left this room seemingly untouched. With a few details added to the walls and some tables and chairs. Perfect for a relaxing chat with friends or even a date.
But, what brings me back every time is the terrace itself. Hidden within the walls of the surrounding buildings, there is no city view but believe me you won’t miss it. The terrace has a way of making you feel invisible from the outside world. With its own bar and plenty of seating options, feel the stress of the working week melt away.
