North Bar is one of Leeds’ more intimate drinking dens, but what it lacks in square footage it makes up for in drinks, with a huge range of hard to find craft beers, free flowing tequila verdita, and some of the best Bloody Mary’s in the city. With nearly thirty years in the business, they could well be the first craft beer bar in the UK.

Barrel-aged lagers and citrusy wheat beers to herbal grisettes

Boasting an encyclopedic cellar and a friendly, knowledgeable bar team, beer lovers can expect to find everything from bright saisons to juicy IPAs, tangy sours, and farmhouse styles full of character on offer here. From barrel-aged lagers and citrusy wheat beers to herbal grisettes, if you’re looking for something in particular beer-wise then North Bar should probably be your first stop.

An early pioneer of the Leeds’ bar scene, it first opened its doors on New Briggate in 1997. According to its founders, the city centre was a “bar desert” at the time and they opened simply because they wanted somewhere to go themselves. Starting out with Fosters and Kronenbourg on the taps, as better beers slowly became available to them they added Belgian styles and more global beers, before going on to specialise in the adventurous lists they’re known for today.

Unparalleled beer selection as well as a good selection of wines, spirits, and cocktails.

Over the decades, the team behind North has played a key role in bringing international breweries to the UK market, and has been instrumental in championing the growth of local breweries like Northern Monk and Magic Rock. In 2016, following the opening of two sister sites in Leeds, it went on to launch its own brewery – North Brewing Co. Nearly ten years later, the group has a total of nine bars in the UK and distributes its own beers internationally, but this is the place where it all began.

Glass fronted with an outdoor beer garden just perfect on balmy summer days, North Bar is known for its unparalleled beer selection as well as a good selection of wines, spirits, and cocktails. You’ll also find teas, coffees, and some light bites to keep you going on offer here. Today, North Bar’s known as a pioneer of the Leeds beer scene with an encyclopedic cellar, eight booming sister sites, and a successful brewery too.
