A top destination in South Manchester for a wide range of sustainable, plastic-free and zero waste products, Withington’s Lentils and Lather makes it easy to shop in an environmentally friendly way.

The eco-conscious and ethical superstore is passionate about eliminating pointless plastic from food items, drinks, household goods and personal care products –  a no-brainer when it comes to reducing our impact on the environment. They encourage you to take your own containers to fill up with kitchen and household staples, with a large part of the shop dedicated to bulk foods, bathroom products and household cleaning liquids. A bonus of shopping in this way is that, freed from pre-defined and pre-packaged quantities, you only buy what you need, giving you better control over your spending.

The shop is really supportive of local, independent makers and manufacturers who align with their ethics, and their range is constantly evolving. From fresh bread to ethically sourced coffee, soap bars to dental care products, there’s an eclectic offering, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to leave with a few extra-curricular items that weren’t on your list. But that’s one on the beauties of shopping in places like this, right?

You can find the Withington shop (there’s also one in Marple) just beyond Withington Baths, about five minutes’ walk from Copson Street. If you’re travelling by bike (extra green points to you) then you can lock up right in front of the shop. Otherwise Burton Road is the closest Metrolink station, and Everett Road bus stop is seconds’ walk away from the shop’s entrance.

Winter brings a huge haul of seasonal shows, as well as productions that resolutely veer away from the fairy lights.
