HEART

Heart is an arts, community and enterprise centre run by the people of Headingley in Leeds, but serving a much wider community. They regularly host live music, workshops, community and arts events as well as encouraging a culture of enterprise for the good of the community.
Gigs, poetry open mics, and film screenings, you can guarantee you’ll never be bored at HEART.
Housing a Tiny Boo play area for pre-schoolers and a Pulse co-working space, they also have a particularly lovely plant shop round the back as well which, if the delicious food in the café, great beer and interesting events don’t grab you, is definitely worth checking out.
With a year round calendar of events to explore, there’s always something going on at this community hub. From regular groups and classes spanning arts and crafts, education, music and drama, languages, health, and wellbeing, and more, to gigs, poetry open mics, and film screenings, you can guarantee you’ll never be bored at HEART.
Also home to Assembly Bar + Kitchen, open from 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, here you’ll find a solid all day offering starting with a hearty breakfast and brunch, leading into a crowd pleasing lunch and evening menu. Think full Yorkshire breakfasts from £12, as well as breakfast rolls and a variety of things on toast, followed by sandwiches and flatbreads, warm, healthy salads, and a seasonally changing soup of the day. For the little ones, there’s also reasonably priced ‘buddy bowls’ available for under £2.
More than a decade later it remains a well loved favourite amongst locals.
As for drinks, sip on coffee and tea to start your day, opt for a chilled soft drink, or make the most of the bar offering with a wine, cider, or perfectly poured draught beer. HEART is a space for the whole community to enjoy, catering to everything from professional gatherings and private functions to family days out, community classes, arts and events.
First founded in 2011, HEART occupies the former Headingley Primary School. Community run and funded, it is completely self sufficient and doesn’t receive any grants or subsidies to support its initiative. Spearheaded by the Headingley Development trust to preserve the old school building for community use, more than a decade later it remains a well loved favourite amongst locals.
