Head deep into space from 20-22 June for The Smeds and The Smoos at Z-arts, a theatrical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning intergalactic tale about two star-crossed alien lovers. It’s safe to say, things are about to get complicated.

On a planet far, far, away, the red Smeds and blue Smoos live strictly separate lives. Rules are rules, and inter-species mingling is strictly forbidden, which is exactly why Janet the Smed and Bill the Smoo decide to fall in love – of course they do! After an accidental run-in in the Wurpular Woods, our young alien rebels do what any sensible couple would do when facing parental disapproval: they steal a rocket and blast off into the great unknown.

Cue the chaos, as both families hurtle across the universe in pursuit of getting back their loved-up kids, discovering (spoiler alert!) that unity might just be the better option after all.

Produced by the acclaimed Tall Stories (the team behind The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom stage shows), The Smeds and the Smoos at Z-arts offers catchy tunes, puppetry, stunning design and lots and lots of sweetness and charm. Aimed at ages 3+ and their grownups, it’s a show that is not only hilarious but also provides a lovely message about love, family, and what happens when you decide to do something different to what’s expected.

Expect giggles, gasps, and probably a few interplanetary earworms in this fantastic production.
