Work Drinks is part of a new body of work by Manchester-based artist John Powell Jones about to go on display at Paradise Works. The exhibition explores Western culture’s relationship with ‘work’, as shaped by a hyper-capitalist/consumer state of shared consciousness. The artist contends that work is no longer a part of one’s existence, it is instead increasingly becoming the all-consuming reason for being, oozing over every aspect of life, the line between it and leisure blurred. We live in a constant state of anxiety, ever aware of the looming shadow of unemployment, bombarded by the idea that success, financial wealth and ultimately happiness are all intrinsically linked. The exhibition is open to the public 12-5pm every Saturday from 8th-22th June, or by appointment.
