Ever wondered what it’s like to have a picnic in a pool? Now’s your chance to try it! Join the ultimate family picnic experience at Manchester’s Grade II* listed Victoria Baths this August. See the stunning Gala Pool (empty, obviously!) transform into a beautiful picnic venue, with traditional lawn games and arts and crafts activities available all day to keep everyone entertained.

Taking place on Wednesday 14 August from 12pm – 3pm, this family-friendly event is a highlight of the Victoria Baths’ summer programme and a great way to spend some quality time with your little ones. It takes place indoors under a glorious glass roof, so it’s a great option if it’s a rainy day and you still want to do something with a summer vibe.

Picnic in the pool at Victoria Baths
Victoria Baths

Victoria Baths is one of Manchester’s most popular heritage sites and is packed with history and fascinating architecture. If you’re interested in finding out more about the building’s history, guided tours will take place at 1pm. The tiniest picnic goers will also enjoy the Little Zone: a dedicated area for smaller adventurers to play with toys, books, and ‘cook’ in a mini kitchen.

But this is a picnic in the pool, so let’s face it – the picnic and the food itself is the main event. Bring your own delicious snacks, sandwiches, crisps, yoghurts, chocolate – whatever you fancy. Or you can purchase lunch and snacks at the Victoria Baths’ Tea Room. The picnic takes place on the tiled floor of the swimming pool, so also bring blankets and cushions to ensure you’re comfy!

Everyone is welcome to attend the Picnic in the Pool at Victoria Baths: grownups, children, babies, and your favourite teddy bears. At only £1 per ticket, it’s also a really great outing if you’re feeling a bit strapped for cash, but want to do something lovely with your family and make lasting summer memories.
