Centre For Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) in collaboration with White Cube presents an exhibition of installations, paintings, sculpture and film from He Xiangyu’s Lemon Project, which includes the premiere of new film Sylvain (2017-19). This solo exhibition coincides with the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia where He is one of four artists to represent China. He’s experimental practice is like a conceptual laboratory in which the artist investigates a variety of personal, social and political subjects. Lemon Project refers to He’s ongoing artistic research across 24 countries showing that the etymology of ‘yellow’ and of ‘lemon’ are entwined historically across cultures, as well as having a shared symbolism that transcends borders of language. Sylvain presents a metaphorical discourse about power and control as well as self-identification and the absurdity of life.
