Within the creative hub of Salford Makers, you will find 7 Spot Pottery, a visually inventive and well equipped ceramic studio. Let go of the outside world in this hand building workshop, in which, you’ll create two individual coffee cups using a slab-building technique and slip-decoration. The teaching style is open and flexible allowing you to have some creative control over the finished product. Using the skills aquired in the workshop, you are encouraged to learn through doing. Making mistakes is a necessary part of getting better at any skill or craft, and 7 Spot welcome you to make them. The session lasts approximately two hours and your finished cups will be ready to pick up from 7 Spot four weeks after the workshop, allowing time for them to be fired and glazed. Be sure to book well in advance, as the sessions can be popular and sell out quickly.

7 Spot was started by Pascal Nichols two years ago after he noticed a lack of studio space for ceramic artists in Manchester and Salford. As someone with a background in visual art as well as an interest in pottery from an early age Pascal is an open minded teacher welcoming enthusiastic ceramicists at any level or ability. Both teachers in the studio have backgrounds in visual art so bring a range of skills and styles to their teaching. As well as hosting individual workshops and longer courses, the studio is a creative home to 10 ceramicists. These artists range from those working as professionals to hobbyists who first found a love for ceramics in 7 Spot’s beginner courses. All are welcomed into the space equally, regardless of artistic background. In this hand-built coffee cup workshop, you can learn a new skill whilst creating something useful for your morning routine, and who knows, perhaps ceramics will become a new favourite pastime.
