We’re off to Affleck’s hidden treasure 3MT for this special Gothic Styles event, part of the second Gothic Manchester Festival from the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies at Man Met, and seeing the meeting of gothic culture minds John Robb and Dr Claire Nally.

Having recently supported Goth stalwarts The Sisters of Mercy with his band Membranes, musician and author John knows a thing or two about the Gothic past and Goth in the 21st Century, and his forthcoming book, The Art of Darkness, is about post-punk and Goth music, culture and fashion.

Senior Lecturer in Twentieth-Century English Literature at Northumbria University Claire, meanwhile, specialises in subcultures, and has published work on Goth and steampunk, with her upcoming monograph delving into the Neo-Victorian.

The pair will discuss how Gothic literature and films connect to street style and pop culture, and question whether Goth has gone mainstream – or whether Goth is actually finally dead…
