Drift by Meg Erridge at Assembly House
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions Editor
What do we do when we realise that nothing in life is certain? Meg Erridge explores this exact dilemma in Drift, her first solo show, at Assembly House in Leeds.
The exhibition combines performance, sculpture, video, drawing, and collage to ask what it means to live without direction. The artist studied at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford and having graduated in 2023, she felt the need to harness the sense of having been cast adrift by the education system. That’s where Drift stems from, the sensation of aimlessly floating around after the safety of grades and structure within an institution. She taps into a common feeling experienced by many, making for a very relatable visual art experience.
Erridge is a multidisciplinary artist who often uses elaborate costumes that alter or restrict the body during a performance, event or film. She works across mediums and techniques, experimenting and searching for new approaches to making all the time.
Drift is on for four days only so don’t miss it.
