Kantos chamber choir are bringing a very specially curated programme to the Northern Quarter this September. In collaboration with Bothy and the makers at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, the 16 piece vocal ensemble will be sharing stories of craftspeople, designers and those that create beauty from our natural resources in their signature acapella style.

Before the concert, the makers will be opening their studio spaces for people to browse and buy from as well as letting people see the hard work and skill that goes into creating each unique object.

You will hear modern arrangements of well known folk songs alongside pieces from Holst, Macmillan and Disley-Simpson, as well as three new commissions from young Manchester based composers. A theme of making and crafting is weaved through the programme with effortless grace, to create what should be an exceptional evening that celebrates multiple artforms.

Kantos are one of Manchester’s most exciting classical ensembles. Their conductor Ellie Slorach takes pride in bringing the best choral singers in the north together, to create an awesome sound that is yet to be bettered. They regularly perform and record with BBC radio, BBC Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic and Northern Ballet Sinfonia to name but a few. It’s a rare opportunity to catch the top level vocal group in such a unique setting.

57 Thomas Street is the third outlet belonging to Manchester’s best-known microbrewery, Marble Beers. Unlike the lavish decoration of the Grade II-listed Marble Arch (which also doubles up as a brewery) or the traditional pub layout of the Marble Beer House in Chorlton, this tiny Thomas Street digs has room for just two things: beer and food.
