Brighter Sound in collaboration with Girls I Rate is giving female songwriters, producers and artists a chance to gain some insight from multi-platinum selling songwriter Carla Marie Williams. Founder of Girls I Rate, Carla, has written for artists such as Sean Paul, Britney and Béyonce and has enjoyed a successful career as a musician and songwriter. The masterclass will start with a listening session followed by talks on Lyrics, Concepts, Melody and Improvisation. There will also be a question and answer session with Carla in which participants will have the chance to start a conversation and receive advice about challenges currently facing them. This is followed by a mixer for the artists to network and talk to each other in a more informal setting. For those interested, be aware that applications to take part close on Monday, March 4th at 4 pm. After registering, take a selfie and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #AllMyGirlsTour as well as tagging @GirlsIRate to be in with a chance of winning some Girls I Rate merchandise. The masterclass will be taking place in the Pink Room at YES.

During Women’s History Month, Carla is touring the UK and Ireland hosting masterclasses with the aim of empowering a new generation of female musicians and creatives. The tour is part of Girls I Rate, a movement trying to push for female representation, recognition and equality in Creative Industries. Through championing female role models already paving the way, and encouraging young women to work together and support each other, the movement inspires new collaborations and gives those at the start of their careers the confidence to stand up to unfair treatment.

This event is part of Brighter Sound’s Both Sides Now initiative. They are hosting three years of events, residencies, masterclasses with the aim of supporting, providing opportunities for and showcasing women making music in the north of England. Details of future Both Sides Now projects can be found on the Brighter Sound website.
