Listen to a new series of Broadside Ballads by Jennifer Reid that contrast working life today with the experience of the mill workers of the past. The Lancashire-based singer has worked closely with local community groups in Wythenshawe (Manchester) to develop the ballads, which cover themes such as paid employment, child rearing, housework and other forms of everyday labour.

Reid’s work forms part of Arts and Wonder – Quarry Bank’s new season of visual art, film and music, exploring work, leisure and the legacy of industrialisation through contemporary art.
