An Evening of Urdu Poetry at MMU Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester 20 February 2018 Entrance is free — Visit now

To launch Manchester City of Literature’s celebrations of the UNESCO initiative International Mother Language Day, the Manchester Metropolitan University is hosting its first-ever poetry Mushaira, a poetry symposium and forum for free expression, traditional to Pakistan, North India and the Deccan, where poets gather to perform their works. Zahid Hussain, author of The Curry Mile, and fellow members of the Manchester Muslim Writers group will be introducing Urdu-speaking poets from Manchester and beyond, with work performed in both Urdu and English. They will be joined by Anjum Malik, Lecturer in Creative Writing at the Writing School at Man Met, and special guests.
