If MIF is known for anything it’s collaborations, and this year’s Festival looks set to deliver on that front once again. We are particularly excited about the teaming up of Manchester Camerata and Manchester’s very own polymath, DJ, Composer and producer AFRODEUTSCHE. She will be creating a brand new work for string ensemble which will be conducted by Robert Ames in the brand new Factory International.

A progressive new live experience.

AFRODEUTSCHE has been a firm part of Manchester’s musical identity for years. As a techno, house and electro DJ she has played in some of the best rooms in the world. Now she also plays across the airwaves with her BBC 6 Music residency. As a composer she blends genre with deft skill and continually sounds honest to her artistic self no matter what the musical context is. She’s been going from strength to strength over the past few years, gaining an ever supportive army of fans.

The show is part of the Unquiet series, a progressive new live experience combining the worlds of contemporary orchestral and electronic music, creating musically coherent happenings that don’t lean on genre. These gigs have previously seen the work of Space Africa and Mica Levi being positioned next to Hildur Gudnadottir and Phillip Glass. Unquiet is an unconventional approach to curation in the best way.

Manchester Camerata are notoriously versatile and genre fluid in their programming but never in their quality. Whether they are playing in care homes, the Proms or Glastonbury their fearless performances combine excellent musicianship with continually new ideas.

This bringing together of a cutting-edge artist, an established but excellent ensemble and an innovative conductor who is no stranger to breaking ground is the type of collaboration MIF is brilliant at. Be sure to join them all for what promises to be a night of music to remember.

The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
