Fancy soaking up the sounds and rhythms of Cuban and Congolese culture? Then this welcoming event from Manchester’s Amani Creatives (who celebrate music and art forms originating in Africa) is your bag.

Head to Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church for music and dance performances which explore the similarities between the cultural traditions of North-West based Congolese and Cuban communities. Hear interviews from the communities and see costumed performances from participants in a year-long Heritage Lottery Funded project.

Expect The Sacred Trinity to be lit up by song by the Amani Creatives Community Choir and to get moving to a Congolese / Cuban Band performing both traditional and contemporary songs from the two communities.

There will also be a performance by Cameroon multi-instrumentalist Tagne Tebu whose music blends African melodies and grooves with jazz harmony and is based on African storytelling on the themes of love, war and peace.

Whether you stay for an hour or the day, Rumba promises to be an enriching and joyous experience for all ages

A busy image created using generative AI. The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
