Not content with hosting a wide variety of fascinating items based around Lake Windermere, the Windermere Jetty Museum also has an excellent lakeshore cafe that offers outstanding food and incredible views over Windermere. Since opening in spring 2019, it has become enormously popular with both locals and visitors.

Enormously popular with both locals and visitors

Start your day with a 10 am breakfast, with a choice of hearty options such as homemade granola served with berry compote and yoghurt, pancakes, a classic bacon bun, or mushroom benedict. Or you can go for lunch, which is served from noon until 4 pm. Here you’ll find delicious fresh salads, soup of the day, and a selection of focaccia open sandwiches including roasted vegetables with feta, Lancaster smokehouse salmon or Parma ham.

In the evening, main meals include potted mackerel pate, fish chowder, Boatman’s platter or one of the locally-loved hearty quiches with a trio of side salads. There’s also a Little Skippers menu for children, and carefully-crafted vegan and vegetarian menus. Coffee and teas are supplied by Carvetii coffee roasters from Threlkeld, Cumbria, while cakes and bakes include a Lyth  Valley Bakewell served with cream and a Borrowdale tea bread with rum butter.

Even a pirate ship for youngsters to explore

As you’d expect from a cafe in an area as beautiful as this, you’ll find both inside and outside seating, with the majority of the outside seating undercover to protect diners from the elements. There’s a model boating lake where you can sit back and watch mini boats take voyages, and even a pirate ship for youngsters to explore. And of course, you can simply wind down with a glass of wine and enjoy the view of Windermere with its steamers and yachts sailing by.

And dog-lovers can relax, the Lakeshore cafe is dog-friendly, both inside and out.

Throughout summer, on Fridays and Saturdays the cafe opens late (5-9 pm) for Sunset Suppers where you can enjoy pizza and prosecco for just £9.95.
