Sela Bar & Pizzeria

A cracking little basement bar and pizzeria in Leeds that hosts a calendar of live music and events, catch everything from jazz to soul, funk, and electronic at Sela Bar on New Briggate in Leeds city centre. Dimly lit with sultry red lamps, exposed brick walls, and a well stocked bar, it’s a perfect place to while away a few hours sipping on quality imported beers and creative cocktails.
First opened in 2004 with a dream to provide good beers from around the world, fun and complementary cocktails, and a stage for the region’s finest musicians to perform on, over a decade later Sela Bar is still a fixture for good drinks and quality live music in Leeds – now welcoming some of the best artists in the world. Carrying over 30 different beers, selections range from the hyper local (Pickering), to New York, and Belgium, whilst cocktails change seasonally to keep things fresh.
The pizza here also deserves its own special mention, being widely regarded as some of the city’s best by those in the know. Cooked from scratch, if you appreciate a thin, crispy base then Sela Bar’s artisan stone baked pizza is the one for you. Expect to find a wide range of options when it comes to toppings, too, with good options for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters. Served until late, this cool basement hangout is just as good for a lunch time stop off as it is for a cheap and tasty bite to keep you going late into the evening.
As for the music on offer, its stage is a regular home to local funksters The New Mastersounds, and Sela bar welcomes Mojah Reggae Band for a weekly residency on Wednesdays. Tuesdays see the team hand the reins to the best new producers, welcoming the best soul, jazz and more to the stage, whilst every third Sunday of the month sees the Sela Bar Jazz Jam put on live music from 9pm, followed by an open jam with guests invited to bring their instruments along.
If you’re looking for somewhere with a cool atmosphere where you can meet some interesting people, look no further than Sela Bar.
