Bean There Coffee

Bean There Coffee has two shops in South Liverpool, each one in what is pretty much a perfect location for lovers of very nice, niche-branded coffee, fresh pastries and eggy brunch. The Bean There Coffee Shop & Bakery is on Rose Lane, in the leafy Mossley Hill area – they sell freshly baked bread and serve delicious afternoon tea (but do book in advance for that). For the purposes of this text though, we’ll focus on the original location, on the corner of the legendary Penny Lane and Smithdown Road where you’ll find Bean There Coffee Shop & Kitchen.

You won’t miss its exterior with  bright yellow accents, with outdoor seating and a surprisingly sizeable area with lots of tables inside, for groups large and small. The coffee cups are yellow too and the whole place has a homely atmosphere with sofas, locally made art on the walls and board games you can use piled on the side.

The staff are friendly and know their coffee well – your cappuccino will be made with love. The croissants are dreamy too and so big they don’t quite fit on the plate. In fact, if you’ve ever wanted to try a supersized croissant, you can make a special order at Bean There – contact them to learn more but trust us when we say it is enormous so even if you really do love pastry, this one you might have to share. You can order birthday cakes too (in regular, human size).

If you’re after something savoury there are some traditional breakfast and brunch options done very well, with veggie and vegan options in abundance. Salads, soups and sandwiches are lovely too and we particularly recommend the handmade sausage roll.

Keep an eye on the Bean There social media for the seasonal events, like pumpkin carving or Christmas carols. Whether you’re a local that’s yet to visit or just passing through, don’t miss this cosy gem.
