Bailey’s Cheese & Charcuterie offers a laid-back, sophisticated experience you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else on the nearby streets of Blackpool

This Clifton Street bar-slash-delicatessen is the kind of place more commonly found in Brighton or Didsbury, full of exceptional meats, cheeses and wines from all over the world. It even hosts regular cheese and wine-tasting events for the culinary curious denizens of this fast-growing coastal town.

Plus, it’s the ideal place to pop in for a glass of small-batch wine and relax with friends or a book, or, if you’re lucky, a chat with delightful owners, Nigel and Damian. The two grew up in Oldham and Preston, respectively, and ran a successful delicatessen in Forfar, East Scotland, for seven years before returning to the northwest.

Keen travellers and food lovers, they’ve poured all their ideas and influences into this stylish space, creating a relaxed environment that offers a refined breakaway from the party-centric Blackpool scene.

It’s a vital addition to the local food and drink landscape, becoming a home from home for those in the know since opening in summer 2024. Our visit saw us sample some truly singular wines and cheeses, including but not limited to an unforgettable Alvear Pedro Ximénez 1927 sweet wine, and the season-limited Vacherin du Mont D’Or, which does things to the olfactory system that are probably illegal in some countries (both highly recommended).

It’s the kind of place that attracts local food and drink experts, and as such various chefs and restaurant personnel pop in for a chat and a drink throughout the evening. In summary, if you want to know the absolute must-visit places in Blackpool, ask Nigel and Damian.

A recent in-depth survey of the UK saw Blackpool ranked as the third best place to live, and the best seaside town overall. Places like Bailey’s Cheese & Charcuterie prove this is certainly no fluke, rather a sign that Blackpool’s bar and restaurant scene is well and truly thriving.
