Cruelty-free eating is becoming ever-more popular across the North of England and beyond, and of course, Leeds is proving to be one of the finest cities for sustainable dining, so we’ve rounded up some of the very best vegan food in Leeds.
Vegan restaurants are far from the underground happenings of yesteryear, and along with the glut of vegan-only diners, you’ll find plenty of standard meat-serving restaurants have jumped on board, along with more than a few major chains. Obviously, places dedicated to vegan (and vegetarian) cuisine are better placed to provide the most high-quality experience, but some of the Johnny-come-latelies deserve a mention too.
And this guide covers the lot. Our main criteria is the tastiest vegan food – it just so happens that this more often comes from the plucky independent venues. So, if you’re at all interested in the future of the planet – or even if you couldn’t care less and just want a healthy meat and dairy-free diet, you’ve come to right place.
Here are our picks
Knave’s Kitchen, 31 Call Lane, Leeds, LS1 7BT - Visit now
This 100% vegan street food pop-up serves up a spectacular array of down & dirty dishes – some might say ‘vegan junk food’ but we couldn’t possibly comment. What you’ll find is a pleasing lack of kale and lentils, with the emphasis on cruelty-free food that tastes utterly delicious. Expect top-drawer vegan chicken and all manner of ‘ooh you are awful’ deep-fried brilliance.
