The Kite Runner at The Lowry
Kristy Stott, Theatre EditorDescribed by The Stage as “the best page to stage show” since War Horse, we’re thrilled that The Kite Runner returns to tour the UK this year. Direct from Broadway and with two hugely successful West End seasons, this theatrical tour de force flies into The Lowry this May.
Following its publication in 2003, Khaled Hosseini’s novel was translated into 60 different languages and sold 31.5 million copies. Now, the story has been adapted into an extraordinary piece of theatre, with storytelling that soars as high as a kite.
Based on Hosseini’s sensational bestseller, The Kite Runner paints a gripping portrait of two boys who grow up in the same household in Kabul in the 1970s. Amir is the son of an affluent widowed father in Afghanistan and Hassan is the son of the father’s trusted Hazara servant. The boys learn everything together – how to walk, read and fly kites – but will their lives follow the same paths forever?
Brilliantly adapted for the stage by Matthew Spangler and directed by Giles Croft, the super talented cast includes Stuart Vincent (Amir), Yazdan Qafouri (Hassan/Sohrab), Dean Rehman (Baba), Daphne Kouma (Soraya), Bhavin Bhatt (Assef), Tiran Aakel (Ali/Farid), Ian Abeyesekera (Gen Taheri), Christopher Glover (Ramin Khan), Aram Mardourian (Kamal) and Stanton Wright (Wali). The cast is completed by ensemble members Amar Aggoun and Sulin Hasso, with Hanif Khan on tabla.
Recommended for ages thirteen and up, The Kite Runner is a truly unforgettable tale about a friendship that spans cultures and continents and follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption. Don’t miss out.
