Chekhov’s original play is given an injection of live folk music in this new and exciting world premiere by Octagon Theatre Bolton in association with Middle Child. Seagulls is a brand new musical written by Chicago-based emerging writer Beth Hyland.

Gig meets theatre in this exhilarating new production which follows the lives of four young aspiring musicians and their band, Seagulls. Set in the present day, they strive to make their mark on the UK music industry. When cracks appear and the reality of the music business hits, will complicated romances and their artistic differences tear them apart?

Love new musicals and live music? This production will be right up your street.

While the Octagon’s period of redevelopment continues, this lively production will be brought to life in the perfect setting of Bolton Library Theatre. This intimate performance space is truly suited to this gig-theatre show – giving audiences the chance to feel close to the action and really enjoy the fantastic live music on offer.

Seagulls is produced in association with award-winning Hull-based theatre company Middle Child who are experts in creating top-notch gig theatre. The talented cast of four-actor-musicians includes Matthew Heywood and Flora Spencer-Longhurst, who both recently performed in the Octagon’s production of Beryl. Completing the cast are Lauryn Redding, who was phenomenal in Oldham Coliseum’s production of The Hired Man, and Tomi Ogbaro, making his Octagon debut.

We’re excited that Seagulls marks the Octagon’s new Artistic Director Lotte Wakeham’s directorial debut at the venue. If you love new musicals and live music, this production will be right up your street. Energetic and exciting, Seagulls promises to be a high-octane show and a fantastic night out.
