Rooms to Live

Rooms to Live at Bury Art Museum at Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre, Manchester 11 November 2023 — 17 February 2024 Entrance is free — Visit now

Rooms to Live at Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre is the first UK exhibition by collaborative artists Derek Tyman and Andy Webster.

The show consists of  two interrelated sculptural installations; Trout House Replica recreates the interior of the Los Angeles house where Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band wrote and rehearsed their seminal 1969 album ‘Trout Mask Replica’. So the Red Rose features a large, boat-like structure reinventing Vanda Chan’s fictitious marooned houseboat ‘Arcadia’.

Rooms to Live combines fiction with real-life references to 1960s counterculture and 1980s environmentalism. The artists are interested in the potential for music and art to trigger the imagination, combining in unexpected ways to create fantastical scenarios.

With a strong focus on music, the show will be accompanied by an exciting programme of events and musician residencies.
