In the speakeasy section of Leeds’ Northern Market you can find Little Crafty Crafts, a series of workshops run by Leeds Indie Market. Featuring different creatives of varying disciplines, each workshop is a space for you to dedicate some time to yourself to relax, meet new people and get hands on with a totally different skill. Join Pokarty Artwork for a workshop where you’ll create your own box frame in which you’ll house a real pinned butterfly.

Part crafting, part entomological intrigue, people who’ll enjoy this are those curious about nature who are keen to create a natural piece of art to hang in your home. Butterfly and insect taxidermy is gaining popularity as a home craft. It celebrates the natural beauty of these creatures by preserving their colourful forms beyond their lived experience.

You will create a wooden frame as well as choosing your specimen and background before assembling them delicately to create a unique piece of natural art. At every step, Pokarty Artwork will be there to give clear instruction as well as being on hand to help out during the more fiddly parts of the process.

All materials will be provided (including butterflies – which are ethically sourced) and the level of difficulty has been described as ‘easy peasy’. It can only be assumed that the session is more about having a relaxed and sociable time rather than getting to grips with difficult techniques. It’s the perfect way to unwind and enjoy a slow Sunday afternoon. Meet fellow crafters in a mindful environment and enjoy creating together.

The venue is accessible and refreshments including alcoholic, hot, and cold soft drinks will be available from the bar. There are also food vendors onsite. To make the experience as enjoyable as possible for all participants workshop numbers are limited to small groups so be sure to book in advance as they are likely to sell out.
