If you’re going to see out the year somewhere dramatic, you may as well do it 19 (yes, perplexingly 19) floors up. 20 Stories, Manchester’s high-altitude restaurant and bar, has 360-degree views of the city below – a skyline that now twinkles like a cut-price Hong Kong once the lights go down.

On New Year’s Eve, it’s promising sky-high celebration in both senses: dinner, drinks and DJs as the clock counts down to 2026. There are two dinner seatings: the civilised 5pm version and one at 8pm that bleeds neatly into midnight – each offering a three-course menu, a welcome glass of fizz and, once you’ve eaten, standing access to the main event, where the party continues until 3 am.

If you’d rather skip the tablecloths and head straight to the bar, drinks-only tickets (from 8pm, last entry 10pm) are available via DesignMyNight. Dining reservations are handled directly through 20 Stories’ website, and large-party packages are limited for both.

It’s the sort of place where you half expect a Bond villain to order a martini, but the staff are far too nice for that. Think more English-garden-in-the-clouds than lair-of-luxury.
