If Return to the Forest opens up a world where objects come to life, this family workshop offers a chance to step into that process yourself.
Led by outdoor artist and puppet maker Rowan Taylor, the session invites families to build their own bird puppets from simple, accessible materials. Choose your weapon: Pigeon, chicken or dodo. But it’s less about creating a hyperrealistic masterpiece, and more about discovering how objects can be animated, transformed and given character through movement.
This carries through to the group puppeteering element, where participants learn how to bring their creations to life together. It’s an extension of Return to the Forest’s ideas, translating its interest in objects, play and imagination into something tactile and immediate.
Best of all, you leave with your puppet in hand – a small, slightly strange reminder of the creative logic that powers the forest.
