In the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, Love Lane Brewery brings heritage brewing into the here and now. Set in a former rubber factory, this working brewery and taproom first opened its doors in 2016 and, following a full refurbishment in early 2024 under new ownership, it’s looking better than ever – all polished tanks, fresh paint and that satisfying backdrop of clinking glasses and stainless steel.

The brewery is proudly home to an 18,000-hectolitre brewing facility where a range of Love Lane beers and the iconic Higson’s Ales are made on site. Higson’s itself dates back to 1780 and has been brewed in various corners of the city, making it something of a cornerstone in Liverpool’s beer history. Love Lane, on the other hand, was first brewed in a converted railway arch back in 2010, just off the street it’s named after – and it’s carried the name with pride ever since.

Weekend tours offer a chance to discover the art and science behind the brewing process, with friendly guides leading visitors from grain to glass. The experience includes a guided tasting of three beers, along with a final pint of your choice, all enjoyed inside the brewery’s own bar and kitchen. The tours strike that sweet spot between informative and informal – just enough detail to spark curiosity, but with plenty of space for enjoying the beer and asking questions.

Tours run every Friday at 6pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 4pm, advance booking is essential. Private tours for up to 15 people and gift vouchers are also available. Whether you’re a committed beer enthusiast or just curious about what goes into your pint, Love Lane Brewery makes for an enjoyable and refreshingly down-to-earth afternoon out.

The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
