This summer Leeds Industrial Museum is calling in the big thinkers – aka LEGO-obsessed kids (and their grownups) who love building and care about the environment.

The earth is changing fast due to human behaviour. In this fantastic event entitled Build the Change, families are invited to take a moment to reflect on the world around them, consider the environment and dream up creative, eco-friendly inventions using LEGO® bricks. Yes – the museum wants your help redesigning its outdoor space, and no idea is too ‘out there’ – in fact, the more out there, the more it is encouraged!

A wildflower rooftop to attract bees? Naturally. A riverside palace fit for a family of otters? Of course. A bin that zaps litter into clean energy to power a heritage train? Honestly, that sounds great too.

So come on down this summer and take the future of the environment in your own hands (no pressure). Build the Change at Leeds Industrial Museum is also a really lovely activity to do with the family and to get creative while also having fun.

After you’ve enjoyed some LEGO building time and potentially saving the environment, explore the rest of the museum – like the permanent Mini Maker’s Studio, Textile Gallery, Media Gallery, Tailoring Gallery and Power House Gallery (this means steam trains by the way- yes please!). And if it’s nice weather pop outside to the Colour Garden to take in some rays and breathe in the fresh air.

The perfect way to spend a day out in the summer holidays. This drop-in activity is included in your museum admission and supported by the LEGO Foundation.

A busy image created using generative AI. The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
