Prepare to be on your best behaviour for two special open days this half term at Greater Manchester Police Museum on Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 February (normally only open on Tuesdays throughout the rest of the year).

Expect to meet special guests from the forces, see makeshift weapons, wooden pillows and a chance to stand in the dock, without being charged.

Formerly Newton Street Police Station, which closed in the 1970s yet still retains the décor and aura of a Victorian-era prison, this gem of a museum houses fascinating collections relating to local policing through the ages, a mocked up forger’s workshop for the more deceptive geniuses in the family, a magistrate’s court, walk-through cells and a compelling 1879 charge room.

Look out for moving personal stories throughout the building including those of not-so law abiding kiddos through the ages.
