Back by popular demand after its tour in 2022, Grandad Anansi is returning to Z-arts this Autumn. Running from Thursday 2 – Saturday 4 October, this performance is aimed at young people aged 4-9, but is appealing with its gentle humour and emotion to children and adults alike. Written by the award-winning children’s author Elayne Ogbeta, Grandad Anansi tells an inspiring and heartwarming story of family, love, being brave, and letting go.

There’s nothing that Abi and her Grandad enjoy more than being out in the garden together amongst the budding flowers and the variety of delicious vegetables. While gardening, they have developed an unbreakable grandfather and granddaughter bond, digging up and re-planting their memories, telling each other mystical Anansi folktales and sharing their deepest secrets.

But Grandad, who is as clever and cheeky as the cunning Anansi legend, has a secret of his own he is struggling to tell Abi. He is planning to return to his much-loved homeland, Jamaica. Can Grandad work up the courage to tell his beloved granddaughter that he wishes to return to the other side of the world?

Expect an exciting, intergenerational adventure in Grandad Anansi, jam-packed with humour, emotion, togetherness and live music, as Abi and Grandad find themselves on a journey they never expected.

Written by award-winning children’s author Elayne Ogbeta, Grandad Anansi is a Half Moon and Z-arts co-production. It was developed in partnership with the African Caribbean Care Group and schools in Hulme, Manchester.

The performance is 40 minutes long. Book your tickets for Grandad Anansi at Z-arts by clicking on the link below.
