Most of us have some kind of practice, whether it’s a hobby or our life’s work. But what does it mean to stay with a practice over time? To repeat, attend, question and allow it to change? These are the questions that have been occupying Rannei Grenne, a dancer of over 10 years, whose new show FORLENGELSER turns inward to the body – weight, contact, sensation, repetition – as a way of looking outward.
The other people here are BUTCHER & CORREIA, aka Katherine Butcher and Carlos A. Correia, a Trondheim duo working somewhere between performance, visual art and relational aesthetics. Across two public performances, Grenne moves, and they build everything around her – costume, material, scenography, sound and visual gestures, carrying the choreography outward into the room, its objects, architecture and audience. Dance piece or exhibition? Both, kind of.
Grenne treats dance as political in itself, not just in what it shows, but in how it’s made, the choices along the way and the habits that steer them. Her wider work as a choreographer taps into similar ideas: “how the how affects the what: how we move in the world, what we give space to, and how we relate to our own bodies and those of others.”
The piece was first produced at BABEL in Trondheim last year and lands at PINK in Stockport as the latest chapter in a partnership between the two artist-led organisations that goes back to 2023. Catch it on Saturday 17 October, 6-9pm, or Sunday 18 October, 2-5pm.
