Following a artist callout, Air Gallery has gathered a fascinating collection of textile artworks for the current show Fibres.

Fibres explores the way that textiles have evolved over time to their current, varied form. The techniques on show include cross-stitch, embroidery, hand weaving, as well as many other techniques, established and experimental, with materials like yarn, organza, even horsehair and silk.

Building on centuries of textile art tradition, the contemporary works on display draw attention to both the way that the field has changed across fashion, craft, decorative and fine arts as well as its long history that continues to this day, blending into other disciplines in our modern digital world. The themes explored include memory, personal and collective experience, ecology and environmental concerns as well as more playful approaches to textiles and their use.

A busy image created using generative AI. The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
