An image is worth a thousand words, so the possibilities of what you can say with several images are vast. Collage gives you the chance to combine impossible scenes as you deconstruct and reconstruct the real world around us. Join Lydia Swinney for an evening of artistic expression through collage. In the workshop, you’ll be using lots of contrasting imagery such as buildings vs nature/ body parts vs consumable items, photography, and fashion. This juxtaposition of cultural tropes allows you articulate big ideas within the space of a single image.

every piece being hand crafted and very deliberate in its placement

Lydia’s work is centred around connections in film, literature and political theory. Her evocative collages tackle images associated with western power structures and subverts them using gentle colour work and aesthetically pleasing shapes. Her collages are often complex and involve multiple layers, encouraging the viewer to sit with the pieces and spend a bit of time unpicking the individual images and motives behind them.

You can be sure to expect slow and thoughtful processes in the workshop, with every piece being hand crafted and very deliberate in its placement. Lydia will guide you through the composition of your final piece and collage techniques you can use. Letting you have full freedom to deconstruct and reconstruct your own work.
