Celebrate International Women’s Day with Palestinian film and food at HEART this March. A collaboration between the arts centre and Leeds Palestinian Film Festival, features a special introduced screening of Lina Soualem’s Bye Bye Tiberias alongside a serving of the classic Palestinian chicken dish Maqluba (vegan option also available) at the HEART ABK cafe.

The 2023 documentary film follows actress Hiam Abbass who left her native village of Deir Hanna, along with her mother, grandmother and seven sisters, in the early ’90s in order to follow her dream and profession. Abbass went on to appear in films such as Haifa and The Syrian Bride as well as Steven Spielberg’s Munich and more recently in television’s Succession.

Thirty years later, Bye Bye Tiberias sees her filmmaker daughter Lina return home with her to journey through the now vanished places of her youth, tracking the scattered memories of four generations of daring Palestinian women.

The event at HEART pairs Bye Bye Tiberias with Street Art Final, a short film from director Juman Quneis, while there will also be Zaytoun produce and Palestinian ceramics for sale.
