We’re thrilled that our favourite traditional pantomime is back for 2021 (oh yes we are). Previously postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Oldham Coliseum panto team are back to put some sparkle into the festive season. So dust off your magic carpet and get ready to fly into Oldham for Aladdin this Christmas.

The Oldham Coliseum panto team are back to put some sparkle into the festive season.

Aladdin spends his days dreaming of a better life for him and his mother. So, when he discovers a magical lamp it appears that all his wishes have been granted. However, hiding in the shadows is the cunning Aunty Banazar – who will stop at nothing to get her hands on the powerful lamp. Together with the Jinn of the Lamp, Aladdin sets out to save Princess Jasmine, Oldham and the whole of the world…

Coliseum panto favourite Richard J Fletcher will don his heels once again as Dame Widow Twankee; Shorelle Hepkin will take on the role of Aladdin and Sam Glen returns to the Oldham stage as Wishee Washee. Liz Carney will move over to the dark side as the wicked villain Aunty Banazar and Dora Rubinstein will make her Coliseum debut as Princess Jasmine.

Blending tradition with a good dose of pop culture.

Packed with toe-tapping tunes, slapstick silliness and all the usual pantomime tropes, we love pantomime at Oldham because of its clever and witty script – providing genuine laughs for both children and grown-ups. And the auditorium is the perfect size for everyone to feel part of the action – there are so many chances for the children to shout out, sing along and join in with the mayhem on stage.

Blending tradition with a good dose of pop culture, the Coliseum’s pantomime has been delighting audiences for generations. So if you’re searching for the perfect Christmas treat for the whole family – look no further than Aladdin at Oldham Coliseum.

Theatre in Manchester and the North
Theatre in the North

This season’s theatre is gloriously eclectic: from radical cabaret and reinvented classics to new musicals and boundary-pushing performance.

Detail of an abstract sculpture, with burned materials and rusty chicken wire at the centre, with rusted metal bars bent around it.
Exhibitions in the North

Chocolate fountains, beautiful batiks and medieval marginalia - this month's supersized Exhibitions Guide has it all.

Literature Events in the North

The autumn leaves might be falling already, but the harvest is plentiful as the live literature scene gets back into the swing of things after a summer break...

Cinema in the North

This month we recommend a season of Film noir, cult Australian movies and a huge celebration of DIY community cinema.
