Anyone who’s not good with heights should look away now: Manchester’s Cloud 23, the cocktail bar sitting proud on the 23rd floor of the Beetham Tower, Manchester’s tallest building, serves cocktails named after Stone Roses singles and boasts unparalleled views across the city. Afternoon tea here is also recommended (daily, Midday-5pm; there’s also a champagne version) but the place is worth a visit primarily for the views – you may enjoy the perspex oval cut into its floor that allows a dizzying look to the street that’s 23 floors below. Unless you suffer from vertigo, in which case you may not.

Note that the bar’s capacity is just 200; queuing at busy times is common and a free guest list service for weekend nights is in operation (which can get booked up far in advance).
