The name tells you everything you need to know. If you’re looking for a cyber rave dungeon, move on. No, Fell Bar has Cumbrian origins, and brings a suitably genteel, rustic air to South Manchester.

It’s the first venue the Fell Brewery team opened outside the Lake District, bravely launching at the height of lockdown in summer 2020.

Since then, it’s become a firm favourite of the Chorlton masses, offering hand pumped ales and very distinguished fixtures and fittings. Think green tiles, dark wood panels and traditional bits and bobs. It’s an age-old pub in all the right ways.

It’s based next to the excellent Japanese restaurant Yane, and you’ll find it in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2025 – one of 15 Manchester pubs named this year.

Inside, there are cosy booths but more important, eight taps – twelve keg and four hand‑pumps – serving a rotating roster of Fell Brewery ales alongside guest beers from Britain and beyond.

The brewery’s session pale Ghyll (3.4% ABV) is always on offer, while guest pours include porter, mild or strong IPA styles. Cider drinker? Enjoy responsibly all day: real cider from Hogan’s. There’s also a modest selection of natural wines, spirits and snacks sourced from small‑scale sustainable producers.

The prime spot is the small beer garden out front, the ideal space to catch the afternoon sun and to watch the gentrification unfold in front of your very eyes.

Word to the wise, payment is card‑only – it’s not that old school.  Pop by on second Sundays for an up close and remarkably proficient jazz jam from 7 to 9pm.

Fell Bar is a solid addition to Chorlton’s drinking scene: serious about beer, welcoming and nicely anchored to Fell Brewery’s rural roots.
