Winsome is offering 50% off food Monday to Friday at lunchtime this January. Led by chef Shaun Moffat, Winsome serves bold British cooking that’s wholesome, hearty and full of derring-do. Expect gloriously fresh produce, food that’s rich and comforting rather than finicky or precious, and the buzz of a friendly bistro. The excellent Tender has an eye-opening deal: one course for £19.50, two for £23.50 or three for £27.50. We haven’t seen the likes of those prices for many a year so make the most of it.

Side Street is running an all-day weekday happy hour throughout January. From Monday to Friday, selected cocktails are £7, covering classics like Margaritas, French 75s, Cosmos, Zombies and Aperol Spritz, either straight-up or with a house twist. Dry January is catered for too, with alcohol-free cocktails at £5, including Rooibos-based Red Runner and the jasmine-led East Tea.

Wait, there’s more. Tartuffe is offering a January set menu, with two courses for £28 or three for £32, available Tuesday to Thursday evenings from 5-8pm.

Madre is offering 50% off tacos from Sunday to Friday, for groups of up to six. Based just off the Kampus complex, the space is a long, light-filled room that lends itself to a great atmosphere, packed with groups of mates and run by some of the most likeable and knowledgeable staff around. Madre’s tacos are what the restaurant is famed for, coming with various fillings, including beef cooked slowly for hours and hours, fried chicken, and a few veggie options.

Society is easing January strife with the return of its weekday Social Hour. From Monday to Friday, 4-6pm throughout the month, you get a main dish from any of its independent street food traders for £10, plus pints or wine for £5.

This covers burgers, Neapolitan pizza, katsu curry, quesadillas and Korean fried chicken, with strong vegetarian and vegan choices, plus low and no-alcohol drinks. One of our favourite city-centre destinations for post-work food and early evening catch-ups.

Pip, the in-house restaurant at Treehouse, is offering 50% off food from Monday to Wednesday, 5-28 January. Led by Mary-Ellen McTague and recently recognised by the MICHELIN Guide, the restaurant focuses on seasonal cooking using North West produce. It’s a beautifully decked-out space with a human touch – less about the money, more about the Monet, and the food more than matches up.

The Beeswing is offering 50% off tapas from Sunday to Friday, for pre-booked tables of six or fewer. Based on the Kampus terrace, it’s one of Manchester’s friendliest wine bars, now serving tapas designed to sit happily alongside its vast wine list. The Iberico collar is our standout dish – a thick slice of pork slow-cooked for hours in a red wine pork stock seared, swirled with pomegranate molasses and served on crushed garlic chickpeas, with that first crisp-then-soft bite hard to forget.

New Wave Ramen is keeping things simple this January with a weekday lunch deal pairing a bowl of ramen with a snack for £15. Available Tuesday to Friday, 12-5pm, it’s a solid excuse to drop into the Tib Lane site – a smart, modern-looking space with a relaxed but bustling atmosphere and exceptionally friendly staff. Expect the same high standards in the kitchen, from rich, unstoppably slurpable broths to crisp, just-fried snacks.

The Refuge at Kimpton Clocktower is running a January set menu, The Refuge House Edit, priced at £35pp and designed to be shared between two. Available Monday to Saturday, it’s a good way into one of the most notable venues on the Oxford Road corridor. Expect food served in a palatial but welcoming space of huge arches, marbled tiles and stained glass, elegant without feeling stuffy. Alongside this, the ‘Clock In’ offer sees eight classic cocktails priced at £8 each.

Blinker is running RYE January, offering a selection of classic rye cocktails for £8 each, available all the time, Tuesday to Sunday. Blinker takes cocktails seriously, but it’s one of the most welcoming upscale bars in the city centre, staffed by cheerful, chatty drinks experts. Expect rye-forward classics including Mint Julep and Boulevardier, served in a place nicely tucked away on Spring Gardens, where staff are in it for the love of making drinks that look and taste beautiful.
