Have you ever considered that the Wicked Witch of the West might not be so… wicked? Mind blowing thought, isn’t it? Wicked at Palace Theatre Manchester explores this and more. A fun and energetic production packed with catchy songs, as well as incredible lighting and set design that will have your jaw dropping to the floor, Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the misunderstood, smart and fiery green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West and her complex friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch, who is popular, beautiful and very ambitious.

Set before The Wizard of Oz and based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, this is a tale which explores the backstory of a ‘villain’, and looks at how sometimes, things are not quite as they seem. At its core though, it also is a story about friendship and love, as well as celebrating diversity. It also teases with lots of fascinating  ‘easter eggs’ throughout. Is that the lion? And could he be the future scarecrow?

With music and lyrics by multi-Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, The Prince of Egypt, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and a book by Tony Award-nominee Winnie Holzman, Wicked is currently the 11th longest running show in West End history. It has recently celebrated sixteen triumphant years at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, and its Manchester tour is part of its visit to one of nine UK cities following this.

Wicked at Palace Theatre Manchester is suitable for a general audience. As a guide to parents and guardians, it is recommended for ages 7+. Please note that loud noises, flashing lights, smoke effects and strobe lighting feature in the production. It’s fun, it’s loud, it’s wicked and it is coming to Manchester from 3 December 2024 – 12 January 2025 – don’t miss out!
